Commercial Heating Oil Delivery for Buildings and Facilities

Planned seasonal delivery for commercial buildings and institutional facilities that depend on heating oil as a primary or backup heat source. Degree-day adjusted scheduling, will-call options, and monitored replenishment available. Built for commercial heating demand - not residential delivery.

Commercial heating oil delivery across PA and NJ since 1981.

Operational Overview

Commercial heating oil procurement is different from residential in three meaningful ways: consumption volume is larger and less predictable during cold snaps, tank capacity is greater and more variable, and the consequences of running out extend beyond discomfort to liability, tenant disruption, pipe damage, and regulatory exposure.

Fox Fuel's commercial heating oil program is built around degree-day adjusted delivery scheduling - delivery frequency increases automatically when heating degree days spike, not just on a fixed calendar. This approach reduces runout risk during rapid cold weather events without requiring you to monitor tank levels daily.

Fuel products: No. 2 heating oil (standard commercial application), No. 4 heating oil for high-volume burners and dual-fuel industrial boilers, and bioheat blends where applicable for facilities with sustainability commitments or state energy compliance requirements. Pricing is rack-plus - tied to the daily OPIS index, not a posted price that moves without notice.

Core Service Components

Degree-Day Adjusted Delivery

Heating degree days (HDD) are the standard measure of heating demand - the further daily average temperatures fall below 65F, the higher the HDD, the faster your tank depletes. Fox Fuel adjusts delivery frequency to HDD data, not just a fixed schedule. When a cold snap arrives, delivery cadence increases before your tank hits a critical level.

Will-Call and Monitored Options

Will-call accounts order delivery on demand - useful for facilities with variable occupancy or intermittent heating needs. Monitored accounts have cellular telemetry on their tank and receive automatic dispatch when levels hit the reorder threshold. For large commercial buildings with consistent occupancy, monitored replenishment eliminates the risk of forgetting to order.

No. 4 Heating Oil for Large Burners

High-volume commercial boilers and industrial process heat applications sometimes specify No. 4 heating oil - a heavier distillate with higher BTU content and lower cost per BTU than No. 2. Fox Fuel delivers No. 4 where burner specifications call for it. Dual-fuel (No. 2/No. 4) capability is available for facilities that switch based on cost or availability.

Bioheat Blends

Bioheat blends (B5, B10, B20 - heating oil with biodiesel content) are available for facilities with sustainability commitments, state energy programs, or ESG reporting requirements. Bioheat is functionally equivalent to No. 2 in most commercial burners without modification. Fox Fuel can advise on blend compatibility with your equipment.

What Goes Wrong Without a Fuel Partner

Running Out During a Cold Event

Commercial heating oil runouts during cold snaps happen for one reason: the calendar-based delivery schedule was not adjusted for actual weather. A sudden drop from 45F to 18F over three days can triple consumption and exhaust a tank that was "fine" last week. Degree-day adjusted delivery is specifically designed to prevent this.

Posted-Price Exposure

Many fuel oil contracts use a posted price - the supplier sets the price, and it changes when they decide it changes. During high-demand periods (cold snaps, supply disruptions), posted prices spike without notice. Rack-plus pricing ties your price to the daily OPIS index, which is publicly visible and updated daily. The margin is fixed.

Burner Specifications Mismatched to Fuel Product

Delivering No. 2 to a burner rated for No. 4 creates efficiency loss and potential equipment damage. Delivering No. 4 to a No. 2 burner causes more serious problems. Fox Fuel confirms burner specifications at account setup to ensure the correct product on every delivery - not just the first one.

How Fox Fuel Solves It

Cold snap depletes tank faster than scheduled delivery allows

Degree-day adjusted delivery frequency

Your delivery schedule is not fixed to a calendar. It is adjusted based on accumulated HDD data. When temperatures drop sharply, delivery frequency increases automatically. You don't need to call - the schedule adjusts.

Price volatility from posted-price contracts

Rack-plus, index-tied pricing

Your price is the daily OPIS rack plus a fixed margin. Both numbers are visible. When the rack goes up, your price goes up by that amount only. No supplier-discretion surcharges.

Wrong product reaching the wrong burner

Burner spec documentation at account setup

Your burner specifications are documented during account setup. Every delivery is confirmed against those specifications before dispatch. No product-switching without your explicit authorization.
